What is a Chemical Peel?

Chemical peels are one of the most popular facial treatments available, and it’s no wonder why! They provide a wide range of benefits for all skin types, and can be customized to target your specific concerns. Whether you’re looking to reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, brighten up your complexion, or treat acne, a chemical peel can help.

The best part? You’ll see visible results after just one treatment. So, if you’ve been considering a facial treatment but aren’t sure which one is right for you, a chemical peel is definitely worth considering. Trust us, your skin will thank you!

Do Chemical Peels Hurt?

The short answer is no! There are many misconceptions about this kind of treatment, and we’re here to clear them up.

Chemical peels are extremely common and favoured by aestheticians and dermatologists for their effectiveness. Peels are even gentle enough for those with sensitive skin, as it’s much milder than mechanical exfoliators.

As we age, our cell renewal rate decreases significantly. Peeling is the best way to speed up your natural cell turnover to uncover the fresh, healthy skin underneath the layers of dead skin cells.

So if you’ve been on the fence about trying a chemical peel, there’s no need to worry! This popular skincare treatment is gentle, effective, and bespoke formulation for your individual needs.

How long do Chemical Peels take?

A chemical peel is one of the quickest and most effective ways to improve the appearance of your skin. In just 20-30 minutes, you can achieve smoother, brighter, and more evenly-toned skin. And because chemical peels are relatively gentle, they can be performed on all skin types.

If you’re looking for a way to revitalise your appearance without spending a lot of time or money, a chemical peel may be the perfect solution.

The benefits of a Chemical Peel

Healthy Glow: By removing dead skin cells chemical peels hydrate, exfoliate, and rejuvenate the outermost layer of the skin for an instant healthy glow. Perfect to get radiant skin before a big event.

Anti-Aging: Chemical peels are used to remove the outermost layer of skin and can range from superficial, which exfoliates away dead cells on your surface, down into deeper structures like collagen underneath. The outcome is that you have a smoother-looking, healthier, glowing complexion!

Acne: Peels are a great way to keep your pores clear and free from debris. The ultimate key in controlling acne, breakouts or blackheads is getting rid of dead skin cells that might be clogging them up!

Pigmentation: One of the main benefits of chemical peels is that they can help to improve the appearance of skin pigmentation. Chemical peels work by removing the outermost layer of skin, which can help to lighten and brighten the skin.

How many treatments does it take for chemical peels to work?

One of the best ways to keep your skin looking young is by moving towards a monthly or quarterly peel routine. Even though you will see a difference after 1 treatment, for best results we recommend a series of treatments spaced three to four weeks apart.

Which Chemical Peel is right for me?

So, which type of peel is right for you? If you’re looking for a quick and easy way to improve the overall appearance of your skin, a multi-acid peel may be the best option. If you have specific concerns that you’d like to address, such as acne scars or sun damage, a single acid peel may be a better choice.

Ultimately, the best way to decide is to schedule a free consultation with us to determine which chemical peel is right for you. At Youthful Concepts, we generally start with a mild peel to assess your response, then design your bespoke treatment plan based on your skin type and concerns.

How deep can a peel penetrate my skin?

The percentage indicates how much of the “peeling agent” or other active ingredients are contained in the product. The most important thing to know is; that the lower the pH, the more acidic the peel, and thus, the deeper the peel will penetrate.

The most common acids used in peels are AHA (alpha-hydroxy acids) and BHA (beta hydroxy acids). The different types of acids have different molecular sizes, meaning they can penetrate the skin to varying depths. Glycolic acid and lactic acid are two examples of AHAs, while salicylic acid is an example of a BHA.

While AHAs can penetrate the outermost layer of the skin (the epidermis), BHAs can penetrate deeper into the skin, reaching the sebaceous glands where acne is formed.
