We’ve witnessed amazing transformations firsthand, making it our top choice for treating hyperpigmentation and melasma. Why Winter is the Perfect Time to Transform Your Skin.
As the days get shorter and the temperatures drop, you might be thinking about cozy sweaters and warm drinks. But have you considered winter the perfect time to address those stubborn pigmentation issues and give your skin a radiant makeover? That’s where the Cosmelan treatment comes in.
Winter in Australia offers a unique opportunity for skin rejuvenation with Cosmelan for several reasons:
- Reduced Sun Exposure: The lower UV index during winter means your skin is less likely to be exposed to harmful rays that can worsen pigmentation. This makes it easier to protect your skin during the crucial post-treatment period.
- Easier Recovery: The cooler weather can help soothe any redness or irritation that might occur after the treatment, making the recovery process more comfortable.
- Radiant Skin for Spring: By starting your Cosmelan journey now, you’ll be well on your way to achieving a glowing complexion just in time for the warmer months treatment.
Let me introduce you to Cosmelan Peel Treatment

Originating in Spain, Cosmelan is a multi-ingredient chemical treatment that aims to reduce hyperpigmentation and facial discolouration.
Skin hyperpigmentation is caused by abnormal production of melanin, the pigment responsible for skin colour, and is a consequence of uncontrolled, localized overproduction of melanin by the melanocytes, causing irregular skin coloration and dark spots.
A Cosmelan peel gets down to the cellular level to block the tyrosinase enzyme that is responsible for causing pigmentation, effectively inhibiting melanin production.
This treatment differs from others by correcting the existing problem and preventing it from occurring in the long term. An added bonus is you see results quickly – faster than any hyperpigmentation solution in the market. And because it doesn’t use lasers, it’s also the perfect choice for people with melasma who can’t undergo treatments that involve heat.
Cosmelan is not your typical Peel. Most sit on your skin for 8-12 minutes, yielding an intense burning sensation, often inducing heat. Cosmelan sits on your skin for 6-12 hours without heat or burning reactions. Cosmelan is a thick mask consisting of several powerful pigment fighting natural acids, including azelaic acid, kojic acid, phytic acid, ascorbic acid, and retinoic acid, making this peel ideal for combatting melasma on a deeper level.
How Does It Work?
- Phase 1: In-Clinic Treatment at Youthful Concepts: The first step involves a deep cleansing of your skin, followed by applying the Cosmelan 1 mask, a potent blend of active ingredients that reduce melanin production and exfoliate the skin’s surface. The mask will feel cool, tingly, and occasionally a bit itchy if it dries out. You’ll wear this mask for a specified time (usually 6-12 hours), after which you’ll wash it off at home.
- Phase 2: Home Care: Once the mask is removed depending on skin type (as advised), the skin can feel warm, occasionally feel ‘sunburnt’, and most clients will experience some swelling, then peeling for around 3-5 days. You will receive clear instructions and all the skincare products for the 4-6 weeks post the peel.
The second phase involves a personalised home care regimen tailored to your skin type and concerns. This includes the Cosmelan 2 cream, which helps maintain the results of the in-clinic treatment, along with other products like SkinMATH MD products Ultimate C, Platinum Peptides, and Barrier Defense to hydrate, soothe, and protect your skin.
Results will be visible within 7-10 days but will be best after 30 days. There will be an improvement of hyperpigmentation, the disappearance of more superficial pigmentation, and more even skin tone.
You can maintain results by adhering to the post-treatment plan and being vigilant with sunscreen. We recommend continuing using home care for at least four months, which may be extended up to 9 months depending on the progression of each individual case.
Cosmelan 2 can be used indefinitely with longer intervals between applications to maintain results, but the Cosmelan 1 peel can be repeated once per year if needed.
Cosmelan Peel Before and After Pictures
I have seen dramatic results, not only in my patients but also in my skin.
I treated myself with Cosmelan in 2020 and was amazed; definitely worth the downtime. Most of my pigmentation stayed away except after sunny holidays when I noticed it returning on my forehead. When this happened, I restarted my Cosmelan 2 cream to get it under control. I love Cosmelan because I think it is less painful and less risky, and more cost-effective than anything on the market for pigmentation.
